CopenHill is conceived as a public infrastructure with intended social side-effects from day one. Copenhill, Copenhill Park, or Copen Hill was a neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia which was located largely where the Carter Center now sits, and which now forms part of the Poncey-Highland neighborhood. CopenHill is a clean power plant that creates energy by burning waste instead of fossil fuels. But the facility, which opened in October, has something else that makes it special: It does its part CopenHill is a manifestation of architect Bjarke Ingels’ “hedonistic sustainability”—the idea that a sustainable approach can provide a more favorable alternative.
