Professor Hartman is a scholar of African American and American literature and cultural history whose immersive and unflinching portraits of Black life have Saidiya Hartman: "It's really hard for me, literally seeing the life being dissipated from a black man as a white police officer is killing him, with a 17 year-old black girl witnessing it.
